Comedian John Agitation has died.

Reports are that Agitation, real name Ramdeen Ramjattan, passed away at the Sangre Grande Hospital on Tuesday, February 5.

He fell ill on Monday and was taken to the hospital.

Agitation was 90-years-old.

Born in Caratal, Agitation began comedy at the age of 24.

He started telling jokes on radio and performed to sold-out shows around the country.

In 1989 he contested and won a by-election in the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation becoming the first comedian in the Commonwealth to win an election.

He was a dedicated community worker and farmer who was awarded the Hummingbird Silver for his contribution to Trinidad and Tobago culture in 2003.

Agriculture Minister Clarence Rambharat said in a statement on Facebook that Agitation was a popular former Ministry of Agriculture employee when he worked in the Ministry.
