This past Saturday a new representative for Jamaica in the Miss Universe 2016 pageant was crowned. Isabel Dalley shares that her success of winning the competition Jamaica was owing to the fact that she had a goal to build her self-confidence. In an interview with a local media house Jamaica Observer, Dalley said: “I entered the pageant initially to gain experience. I didn’t feel confident and I wanted to grow. Entering the pageant has helped me in those areas and now I can say that I am a better person.”
At the grand coronation show that was held at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston on the 27th of August, Dalley outshone all her other 21 competitors for the title. She expressed that winning the title was a big deal for her as she has yet to come to reality about it.
“I’m still surprised and I have to say thanks to all the persons who supported me including my parents and my friends. They have been supportive from day one and have always encouraged me,” she shared.
Just a few months ago, Dalley competed in the Miss Universe North West pageant and won. This part of the competition was held in Montego Bay. On winning this title, she was made an automatic finalist in the Miss Universe Jamaica 2016 finals.
Isabel Dalley is from Reading, St. James and is currently a science student at the Montego Bay Community College.
“I want to become a marine biologist,” the 18-year-old beauty shared. She even practices her interest by working as a search-and-rescue scuba diver at the Doctor’s Cave beach in Montego Bay. During her reign, Dalley wishes to continue building Brand Jamaica and even try to help the Montego Bay Marine Park, which she says is short on much-needed equipment.
“I’m working on a project with the Montego Bay Marine Park. I want to raise funds for them because they really do need equipment,” she said.
With the Miss Universe pageant scheduled to occur later this year, she is set to undergo a lot of training.
“I will be doing voice and speech and I will also be working on posture and poise. I will be working out in the gym as well,” she shared.
Otherwise from Dalley, the other competitors who made it to the top 12 were Shadae Haye, Liane Chung, Renae Roye, DJ Smith, Shanice Clarke, Bianca Cisneros-Wynter, Denyque Welds, Krystal Pitt, Tamoya Lindo, Crystal Hardy and Candice McLeod.
