Natural Expression1 300x199 Natural Expression..... Heartbeat to my soul

New York J’ouvert is just two weeks away.  I love J’ouvert for the steel pan of course but what’s J’ouvert without percussion. I mean you can chip down the road with a speaker box for J’ouvert but who wants to do that, the speaker box is for “pretty mas.” The best music is that of a percussion band. The percussion band (riddim section) or the engine room is the“backbone” or “the heartbeat” of a musical ensemble, it is hot, sweaty, creates pace, and has any session in full swing. Percussion instruments are most commonly divided into two classes: Pitched percussion instruments, which produce notes with an identifiable pitch, and unpitched percussion instruments, which produce notes without an identifiable pitch A great band in Brooklyn that displays percussion at its finest is Natural Expression. The instrumentalists of Natural Expression are masters with their tire irons, graters, cow bells, triangles, whistels, tambourines, sirens and drums.

Natural Expression is a percussion band that was formed in 2007. Winners of 2008, 2009, 2010 Best Rhythm Band for Jouvert in Brooklyn. Last year they were a featured band at the prestigious Lincoln Center. They are most notable for being the lead band for Pagwah mas, however for 2012 both have seperated. For Jouvert 2012 Natural Expression will go down the road with their presentation “Allyuh come C wi, here we come”.  This jouvert will exhibit their new journey of independence, while continuing what they do best; making the crowd express themselves in the most positive way. “Allyuh come c wi, here we come” is an open invitiation for all to come and see what wonders they perform, and if you aren’t ready for them they are most definetly ready for you.Winners of Best Rhythm Band for 2008, 2009, and 2010 J’ouvert in Brooklyn, New York. So if you are in Brooklyn and want to hear the finest percussion and munch on the best Trini food then make your way down to the engine room, Nostrand Ave. between Claredon and Ave D. The yard is open from 10pm til you say when. This Saturday is their short shorts affair so come out and support. I don’t know about you but I already bought my T-shirt. This band is known to have a crowd by the thousands and t-shirts are going fast. Look for me Jouvert morning or in the yard going down the road with Natural Expressions. Bring Yuh bottle and spoon lewwie go!
