It is never easy to reach the finals of an Olympic event. So to see the Caribbean represented by three athletes in the 100m Finals for Women in London was a very proud moment. Trinidadian athlete, Kelly Ann Baptiste and Jamaicans Veronica Campbell Brown and Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce gave the Caribbean something to really smile about but it was Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce becoming double olympic gold medalist in back to back Olympics that was the greatest achievement.
Fraser Pryce aka Pocket Rocket wasnt off to the best of starts by her standards and by 60m, Jeter began to pressure the Jamaican. She was able to fight to the end showing good closing speed to win the Gold in 10.75 seconds. Veteran, VCB was able to snatch third poition. Kelly Ann Baptiste came in a respectable 6th position.
We here at Islandmix will like to specially congratulate Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce. She has become the third woman in the 100m to defend the 100m title and is the first Non-American to do so. Also well done to Campbell Brown on her Bronze and Baptiste for reaching the Finals.
